When i graduated from HHS, I, like most of you, had no idea what was in store for me.  I thought I knew-but sometimes things just don't work out the way you thought they would.  My college education began at the age of 29, after a failed marriage and two children.  My Master's degree was in Elementary Ed., with kndergarten endorsement, and certificates in three areas of Special E.  I eventually remarried, and that didn't seem to work either.  When my dad was dying of cancer i met and married my soulmate, whose wife was also dying of cancer.  After 24 years of teaching, along with 20 years of being happily married, my husband and I are living our retirement years in good health in northern MN, surrounded by immediate family and good friends.  Several times a year I travel with close high school friends and visit my children and four grandchildren.  My hobbies are not outstanding, but bring me great pleasure and relaxation in my daily life: playing cards, reading, gardening, cake decorating, baking, cooking, and canning- as my mother did while I was growing up.  I guess the old saying is true- I've finally become my mother!

Comment:  Married to a wonderful lady, Darlene, as pretty on the inside as the outside for now 45 years.  Retired as a Research Fellow from H B Fuller Co where I was generally an inventor.  Lived in Europe 1 1/2 years but all the rest lived in St. Paul.  I loved tennis which ruined my hips and knees but saved my heart.  I've always been an introvert but life forced me to live in an extrovert's world.  jimh

Hi Friends,

It is really fun to read about the happenings in the lives of all of you in the last 50 years. It sounds like we got a great start at Hopkins High moving on to impact the world in so many ways after our 1961 graduation.

I married a second time in my 50’s barefoot on the beach of Maui Hawaii. It was 20 below in MN when we stepped off the airplane in Maui. The warm trade winds were blowing, the whales were jumping, and the waves of the Pacific were mesmerizing and peaceful. After our honeymoon, we went back to MN to sell two houses and moved to Hawaii for two years. It was bliss for two years until 911 when the planes stopped flying and the tourists stopped coming. Our income stopped too.

We sold our tiny one bedroom one bath condo on the ocean and moved back to MN for awhile… but the warm climate beckoned to us again and we now live in Florida (Sarasota County) Many lovely beaches are only 10 minutes from our home where favorite pass times are walking along the shore, taking a dip, or just reclining in our beach chairs reading or just listening to the waves.

Between us, we have 7 great children and 9 wonderful grandchildren. We have had a steady flow of family retreating from the harsh winters in the North Country to visit us in the Sunshine State. We LOVE it when they are here and spend lots of time gleefully watching the grand kids swim in our pool and in the nearby ocean. Life is good!!!!

Thanks to all of you classmates for making high school a joyful time for me.

The smiles and hellos walking between classes, the games, the dances, the happy fellowship we shared…and cheering for the Warriorettes.

Bob and I are still trying to juggle our schedule in July to make it to the big event. Hope to see you all.

Comment: I left Minn. 36 years ago and worked in the data processing industry; primarily for banks. I've lived in La, Ga, Wa and NC. Married to my lovely wife Dororty for 41 years. I have 3 daughters and 5 grand children. I am very lucky that all 3 daughters live in Jacksonville Fl. where I have a second home. Hi to all my old class mates.

Comment: After high school I joined the Navy, got stationed at the Submarine Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I worked in a machine shop and made parts for submarines. I got to stay in Hawaii for 3 1/2 years, never was on a ship. It was tough duty in Hawaii but someone had to do it. I met my wonderful, tolerant wife Lynell at a Lutheran Church youth group meeting in Honolulu. We were married in January 1965 in the Church where we met and are still happily married 45 years later. We have two children and seven grandchildren that we spend lots of wonderful time with. Our grand children are our most cherished treasures. After the service I went on to Mankato State. I got a degree in Business Administration. I worked for the St. Cloud Housing and Redevelopment Authority for the past 22 years as a Manager and Director of Community Development, prior to that I was employed for 20 years by the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and the Red Lake Reservation. I retired on December 31, 2010.32E3
