Fondly.

Deceased Date: 2024-01-18
Obituary:
James H. 'Jim' Aamodt

Aamodt, James H. "Jim" 81 yrs. old passed away Thursday with his loving wife of 42 yrs., Marcia, by his side.

Jim was an early Musician's Union Member at 13 years old and played in two bands and even on the Lawrence Welk show twice. Known as "the Drummer" at Hopkins High. In college, he played with the Skeets Trio" to pay all expenses at Macalester and later the U of M where he graduated in Business/Marketing. He then left the music career to be hired by the Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1969, he returned to the Twin Cities to create the truck dept. at Shakopee Ford. Later as Heavy Truck Mgr. at Town's Edge Ford, he was recognized as in Top 20 Rod Truck Sales in nation. He also sold Fords at McNeilus Construction Trucks, Lakeland Ford, and Boyer Ford. Through national competition he was awarded the prestigious title of "1988 Most Knowledgeable Ford Truck Salesperson in the US." In addition, he established and directed his own equipment leasing company for forty plus years.

As hobbies, Jim enjoyed having old cars and even totally restored a Jaguar engine. President of Model A club and later active in the Model T Club. Boating fascinated him so he procured, restored and sold large old mahogany boat engines and parts (Kermaths and Hall Scotts) as his next endeavor. Active in the Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) activities. Served as MN President of the BSLOL Chapter of Boats, and twice served on the Board of the now named "Legacy of the Lakes Museum" in Alexandria, MN. Jim was an entrepreneur/innovator and his interest even stretched to aluminum dump bodies in business, to covered boat trailers in hobbies. Jim approached each project with 100% enthusiasm and fascination, like learning something new. His directions, thoughts, and kindnesses will be missed by many.

So sorry to learn of your death now in 2014. You were a very congenial person, laughing easily and so remembered for being easy going. We hope your life was a happy one, and know you will be missed by your classmates.

Take a look at my post under Mark Josefson's memorial for a true story about an episode that I am reasonably sure Bob was part of.

I accidentally ran into Bob around noon on a summer day in 1968.  We impulsively went to a Twins ball game that same afternoon and lucked out on the weather.  I had not seen him in many years.  He will be missed.

My family knew Bob from his work while in school and my Mother called when he passed away.  I remember thinking how young he was and Lupus was something we were not very familiar with at that time.  Since that, I have been tested for it myself and thankfully, have not been diagnosed with it, but he had a delightful personality and was so enjoyable to be in classes with or visit with out of the school.  A real loss...

Fred Finch - February 22nd, 2011
Bob got his B.A. from the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts "on time" in 1965.  He then enrolled in a Masters in Teaching program at Harvard University, where he obtained his M.A.T.  He became a history teacher in a public school in Massachusetts and married.  He was enthusiastic about Massachusetts politics and the potential of the new generationi to reform American Society.

Bob noticed the symptoms of Lupus as early as his sophomore year of high school.  It is a progressive disease and its grip on Bob tighened after college.  It finally claimed him in 1970.  Several of us from the class of '61 attended his funeral and toasted his memory from, of all places, the back room of the Bullpen on Main Street!  Bob was a first class guy, a friend to everyone he met and he left us far too soon!

Nancy & I were great friends in high school. Although we drifted apart after graduation, we re-connected later in life. Nancy was a strong, caring person whom I miss.
