Janet Anderson (Bock)

Marital status: Widowed
Children: 3
Occupation: Teddy Bear Artist
Comment:  50 years !!! After graduation I went to college, obtained two B A degrees and nearly a Masters and then was a teacher in International Falls, MN for 6 years.  I married, had 3 sons and after my husband's death in 1985 moved to Colorado.  After living in the Denver area for 20 years I resently moved further up in the mountains in Summit County.  Using my talents in fiber arts and sewing I became a well known teddy bear artist which helped support myself and sons.  I have continued my love of music playing the Oboe as I did in the Hopkins High School Band.  I played in community orchestras and bands in Denver and now play with a small group here.

Comment: Howdy from cowboy country where a trip into town is an event and a good haircut seems to be impossible. Another trip back to Minnesota is not going to happen this year so I'll write a brief history.   Bill and I married in '64 while attending the U of M and started our family in '68. We really lucked out to have had 2 easy-to-raise boys who have now become our best friends. One is an environmentalist living in CA with his Aussie wife and our 2 grandchildren and the other is a lawyer living in VA. We have remained very close even tho we have been separated by distance on many different occasions. I found that I enjoyed adult education and have earned one BA and two MA's to be able to spend my 38 years of professional life as Speech Language Pathologist. The most fascinating work--giving me the greatest satisfaction--was providing specialized therapies for children identified as average to above average intellect who were also very much on the autism spectrum. We left MN in 1985 to live and work in San Diego 'til 2006 when we both retired to start our retirement lifestyle change as subsistence farmers. It took us 4 years to locate and build on 42 off-the-grid acres of rolling hills in Red Bluff CA. Our house and garage are done and Bill is just now wiring the shop. Our 32 PV panel and battery solar system is done and working better than expected. The fruit and nut orchard is in but not the veggies, bushes or vines. We have 6 baby chickens in the bathtub and a portable coop almost finished. Sheep, goats and dogs are in the future. We hope for a healthy, active and creative retirement when there is always something that needs to be done. I hope many of you will write in the yearbook as I am very interested in what my classmates have done and hope to do. Happiness and Health to you and your families.

Comment: With love to the Class of 1961- I am so looking forward to being with you all again no matter how long it's been. You all were so kind and caring to me when I entered Hopkins in the middle of the 11th grade. I felt so lost after leaving my friends behind in Maryland and had no idea what lay ahead for me in Minnesota. It didn't take any time for me to realize that it would all be OK and that I could make the leap. The students at Hopkins never held back with me but included me in their lives from the first Day. Thanks again to all of you for making my move to Minnesota one of the best experiences of my life. Hopkins High was the Best for me.
