Rosendahl, June M. (Chastek, Collins, Young) age 80, most recently resided at North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, in Fargo, ND.
Born and raised on a raspberry farm in Hopkins, MN, June graduated from high school in 1961. Traveling for work as a magazine sales rep she cultivated her life-long affinity for travel. In 1962, June leaned into her love of the arts and began working as a ballroom dance instructor. She assisted in various capacities supporting a staged dance show that toured around the country.
June was a proud United States Army WAC (Women’s Army Corps) veteran. The WAC’s formed during WWII and provided the first opportunity for women to serve their country. In 1965 she was off to basic training for 8 weeks in Alabama, then to New Jersey for 12 weeks of photography school. Stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina June worked for the Office of Protocol. She assisted in administrative duties arranging official social functions put on by, or for any of the nine one to four-star Generals at the post. During this time, she met and married Edward “Rusty” Collins who sadly, perished while serving in Vietnam.
June was stationed in Honolulu, HI when she met her second husband, Calvin “Inny” Young, a professional entertainer, celebrated for his spirited dedication to comedy and song. Together they promoted numerous charity events, most notably the Jerry Lewis telethons, until 1979. June and Inny are the proud parents of their two children, Mei and Andy, born in 1969 and 1970 respectively. The Young family relocated to MN in 1979. In 1980, their beloved Inny suffered a heart attack while performing on stage and died a few months later.
In 1986, June married another much-loved musician, Kermit Rosendahl of Fairmount, ND. They spent nearly 40 years enjoying each other’s companionship. Sharing their love of travel, they went on many adventures together. Exploring Alaska was a noted highlight.
Upon moving into the North Dakota Veterans home (where she served on the resident’s board) June uplifted the spirits of her new community – sharing her love of Christ and community. She organized a bible-study group and came up with the idea to move dining room tables closer together to encourage community building. Bringing people together was June’s specialty and she cherished sharing stories.
June also enjoyed exploring her creativity. Inspired by the people in her life she drafted several (unpublished) novels. Among many other hobbies, June loved reading, painting, fishing and birdwatching. She lives on in loving memory.
