Lee graduated from Wabash College in Wabash, Indiana and the University of Indiana Medical School.  He completed a residency in Ophtalmology and practiced opthalmology in and around Brownsville, Texas for many years.  He married and had two children, a girl and a boy, both of whom earned PhDs and became college professors.  Lee was divorced prior to his death about ten years ago.
