Joan Winship

Joan Winship

I was so deeply saddened to see that Joan Winship is no longer with us anymore. Joan and I were both horse-crazy and spent a good deal of time going out for long, enjoyable rides on the trails in the beautiful woods and streams not far from where she lived. We weren't always dry by the time we made it to the other side of the stream as we had horses that couldn't always fight the urge to take a plunge! That huge wooded area was just spectacular for trail riding. Joan's horse was an 'American Saddlebred' that was absolutely exquisite! I don't think I've seen one more beautiful than him in all these years since those days so long ago now. He had the spirit of a Saddlebred but was wonderfully well mannered, as well. Every chance we got we were astride a horse and enjoying it immensely! How I wish we could turn the clock back and do it again!
When we were in school, Joan would go about her business, attending her classes and doing anything she was required to do. She had a fairly quiet demeanor and never caused not one problem that I was aware of. She was level headed and very intelligent. Thank God for  weekends! While we were riding horses, Joan did manage to losen up enough to teach me several Russian swear words which was always a 'hoot'! Just try to swear in 'Russian'!

I did not know Joan well, but she was a part of our class of 1961 and unable to join us, so we will surely remember her!Beverlee
