Darlene Morse

Darlene Morse

Darlene Morse was proof that life isn't fair.  She was my classmate at Katherine Curren eElementary School.  She also attended sunday school with me.  She was an active, fun girl.  This was back in the days when parents didn't let their kids go to the beach or to public gatherings in the late summer because they were afraid of polio.  We learned on the first day of school one year that Darlene had polio -- and had it bad!  I knew several kids who got polio, but Darlene was the only one who ended up in an iron lung.  Our Sunday school class would go to her home a couple of times a year and share a lesson with her.  I would be depressed for days.  I don't know what was in her mind about her situation, but I think she was one of the bravest people I have ever known.

What a dear and brave soul you were with the polio and had a smile on your face at our scout meetings all the time...you were such a positive person and your whole family was wonderful.  I read later you became quite a painter...bless your heart always and rest in peace, dear Darlene... Beverlee
