March 20, 1943 Retired English teacher Single Again 2 2012-07-12 13:07:54
I don't know about the rest of you, but I loved my years in high school, and often think of the great teachers I had--Caruson, Hubert Anderson, Steblay, Holcher are just a few--and all the smart and creative students I was with. I still remember classroom discussions and times on the bus and at activities.   I know there are those who may disagree, but I thought we had a great experience, and to prove it I spent all my working years in schools.

I enjoyed teaching English at Anthony Jr. High for 15 years and then 17 years at Minneapolis Roosevelt.  After 32 years I retired, but worked part time for the district for years...as an aide to the principal, a writing consultant and in later years as an arts coordinator. (Most who know me will laugh at the thought of me in that last job title.)  Now I'm retired from even part-time work as well, but volunteer for the Foundation I started for Roosevelt. [Still in high school....told you I enjoyed it.]

My greatest achievement is having two fabulous daughters. [Neither is a teacher!]

What a great website!  Thanks to whomever put it together.  I look forward to hearing more about the reunion.  I left MN in 1977 and have lived out west since, first in California and then WA where we have made our home since 1988.  No children, just one very spoiled Beagle.  I retired in May of 2013.

December 24, 1943 Retired RN Widowed 3 2013-08-15 17:41:19
Hi to everyone ! It does not seem possible that all these years have passed. After high school I went to nursing school in MPLS and received my RN in 1964. Also got married in 1964. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. We lived in Burnsville for 30+ years. In 2002 upon my husband's retirement ,we moved to Central Oregon. (NOT the rainy side of the Cascades) to be part of our grandchildren's lives. It's the best thing we ever did! My husband passed away in 2007 and I also retired in 2007 after a 43 year career in nursing. I now spend my time volunteering, enjoying the grandchildren, and  activities in the beautiful outdoors of Central Oregon. This is my first experience of small town living and I love it!

Hi Friends,
It is really fun to read about the happenings in the lives of all of you in the last 50 years. It sounds like we got a great start at Hopkins High moving on to impact the world in so many ways after our 1961 graduation.
I married a second time in my 50’s barefoot on the beach of Maui Hawaii. It was 20 below in MN when we stepped off the airplane in Maui. The warm trade winds were blowing, the whales were jumping, and the waves of the Pacific were mesmerizing and peaceful. After our honeymoon, we went back to MN to sell two houses and moved to Hawaii for two years. It was bliss for two years until 911 when the planes stopped flying and the tourists stopped coming. Our income stopped too.
We sold our tiny one bedroom one bath condo on the ocean and moved back to MN for awhile… but the warm climate beckoned to us again and we now live in Florida (Sarasota County) Many lovely beaches are only 10 minutes from our home where favorite pass times are walking along the shore, taking a dip, or just reclining in our beach chairs reading or just listening to the waves.
Between us, we have 7 great children and 9 wonderful grandchildren. We have had a steady flow of family retreating from the harsh winters in the North Country to visit us in the Sunshine State. We LOVE it when they are here and spend lots of time gleefully watching the grand kids swim in our pool and in the nearby ocean. Life is good!!!!
Thanks to all of you classmates for making high school a joyful time for me.
The smiles and hellos walking between classes, the games, the dances, the happy fellowship we shared…and cheering for the Warriorettes.
Bob and I are still trying to juggle our schedule in July to make it to the big event. Hope to see you all.
God bless you dear friends,
Penny (Hegland) Lorence
