March 12, 1943 retired SLP, wannabe subsistence farmer Married 2 2012-07-12 13:18:38

Howdy from cowboy country where a trip into town is an event and a good haircut seems to be impossible. Another trip back to Minnesota is not going to happen this year so I'll write a brief history.   Bill and I married in '64 while attending the U of M and started our family in '68. We really lucked out to have had 2 easy-to-raise boys who have now become our best friends. One is an environmentalist living in CA with his Aussie wife and our 2 grandchildren and the other is a lawyer living in VA. We have remained very close even tho we have been separated by distance on many different occasions. I found that I enjoyed adult education and have earned one BA and two MA's to be able to spend my 38 years of professional life as Speech Language Pathologist. The most fascinating work--giving me the greatest satisfaction--was providing specialized therapies for children identified as average to above average intellect who were also very much on the autism spectrum. We left MN in 1985 to live and work in San Diego 'til 2006 when we both retired to start our retirement lifestyle change as subsistence farmers. It took us 4 years to locate and build on 42 off-the-grid acres of rolling hills in Red Bluff CA. Our house and garage are done and Bill is just now wiring the shop. Our 32 PV panel and battery solar system is done and working better than expected. The fruit and nut orchard is in but not the veggies, bushes or vines. We have 6 baby chickens in the bathtub and a portable coop almost finished. Sheep, goats and dogs are in the future. We hope for a healthy, active and creative retirement when there is always something that needs to be done. I hope many of you will write in the yearbook as I am very interested in what my classmates have done and hope to do. Happiness and Health to you and your families.

I realize today how tremendously I’ve been blessed by God starting with my arrival in America as a refugee from Europe with a European-style bow in my hair. I learned to speak English at age six. Now I have a wonderful husband of 38 years with whom I share our homes in Edina and Naples, Florida. Also, we have a beautiful daughter who with her husband moved from New York City to Minneapolis.  We are experiencing the joy of watching our three grandchildren grow (and babysitting a lot!).

I have fond memories of our 20th high school reunion seeing once again the people with whom I shared years of learning and “growing-up”. I was reminded again that our class was composed of genuinely nice people.

October 26, 1943 Retired Real Estate Broker Married 2012-07-12 13:23:04

It was 46 years ago in February that Suzy Doss and I packed up a U-Haul and headed to Colorado Springs.  Two years later I returned to Minnesota long enough to marry my Minnetonka boyfriend, Keith Schaefer, and we've been in Colorado ever since.

We own a real estate company here in Summit County, however, I officially retired in December 2009.  I tell people that Keith will work until buyers are afraid to get in a car with him to look at real estate.

I've lost track of so many of you and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your updates.

(reprinted from my contribution to the Directory of Classmates)
When i graduated from HHS, I, like most of you, had no idea what was in store for me.  I thought I knew-but sometimes things just don't work out the way you thought they would.  My college education began at the age of 29, after a failed marriage and two children.  My Master's degree was in Elementary Ed., with kndergarten endorsement, and certificates in three areas of Special E.  I eventually remarried, and that didn't seem to work either.  When my dad was dying of cancer i met and married my soulmate, whose wife was also dying of cancer.  After 24 years of teaching, along with 20 years of being happily married, my husband and I are living our retirement years in good health in northern MN, surrounded by immediate family and good friends.  Several times a year I travel with close high school friends and visit my children and four grandchildren.  My hobbies are not outstanding, but bring me great pleasure and relaxation in my daily life: playing cards, reading, gardening, cake decorating, baking, cooking, and canning- as my mother did while I was growing up.  I guess the old saying is true- I've finally become my mother!
